Abstract. The concept of information and communication technologies (IT-ICT) as one of the most essential factors influencing the formation of the international society in the 21st century is revealed. The history of the development of ICT in Ukraine during the past 20 years is presented. Proposals on the implementation of the category “Infocommunications” in the university system of specialists training in the development and use of information and telecommunication systems are outlined.
